How to Find Your Snapchat Username and Reset Your Password?

We've all been there, trying to log into Snapchat, only to draw a complete blank on what our username or password is.

Maybe you’ve recently switched phones, haven’t opened the app in months, or just never bothered to write your login details down. The good news? You’re not out of luck.

Today, I’ll walk you step by step through how to recover your Snapchat username and reset your password plus I’ll share tips to make sure you never get locked out again.

How to Find Your Snapchat Username?

How to Find Your Snapchat Username?

First things first: without your username, even resetting your password can feel like a wild goose chase.

Here are a few ways you can recover your Snapchat username. Some of these have saved me personally more than once.

Check While Logged In

If you're still logged in to Snapchat on another device, consider yourself lucky, this makes recovering your username incredibly easy.

Simply open the Snapchat app and tap on your Bitmoji or profile icon located in the top-left corner of the screen.

Once your profile page loads, you'll see your username displayed directly beneath your display name.

This is the quickest and most straightforward way to retrieve your Snapchat username without going through any recovery steps.

Check Your Email or SMS

Another simple way to find your Snapchat username is by checking your email or SMS messages.

Snapchat frequently sends welcome emails, security alerts, or login notifications that often include your username.

Open your inbox or messaging app and use the search bar to look for the word “Snapchat.”

Look through messages such as “Welcome to Snapchat” or any alerts related to account activity, your username is usually mentioned in those messages or emails.

Ask a Friend

If you're still unable to locate your username, try reaching out to a friend who has you added on Snapchat.

They can open your profile either through a previous chat or by finding your name in their friends list.

Once they view your profile, your username will appear right beneath your display name. If you're comfortable with it, you can ask them to take a screenshot and send it to you for reference.

This method can be especially helpful if you're completely logged out and can't access any of your old devices or email.

How to Reset Your Snapchat Password?

Now that you’ve found your username (or at least your email or phone number), you’re ready to reset your password.

If You’re Logged Out

Reset Snapchat Password If You’re Logged Out

If you’re logged out of Snapchat and can’t remember your password, don’t worry—resetting it is straightforward.

  • Start by opening the Snapchat app and tapping on Log In. When the login screen appears, select the Forgot your password? option.

  • Snapchat will then give you two choices for recovering your account: via Phone or via Email

    • If you choose the phone option, a verification code will be sent to your registered mobile number via SMS.

    • If you go with the email option, Snapchat will send a password reset link to your associated email address.

  • Once you receive the code or email, follow the on-screen instructions to create a new password and regain access to your account.

If You’re Logged In and Just Want to Change It

If You’re Logged In and Just Want to Change It

If you're already logged in to Snapchat and simply want to change your password for security or personal reasons, the process is quick and easy.

  • Start by opening the Snapchat app and tapping your profile icon at the top-left corner of the screen.

  • Next, tap the gear icon in the top-right corner to access your Settings. Scroll down until you find the Password option and tap it.

  • You’ll be prompted to enter your current password first, followed by your new password. Once you've entered both, tap Save to update your credentials.

This is a great habit to maintain account security, especially if you suspect someone else might know your current password.

What If You’ve Forgotten Both Your Username AND Password?

This is a nightmare scenario but it’s still fixable. Here’s how you can recover your account in this exact situation:

  1. Open Snapchat or go to the Accounts Portal

  2. Click or tap on Forgot Password?

  3. Use your email address or phone number (whichever you remember)

  4. Snapchat will send a verification code or reset link

Once verified, you’ll be able to set a new password and log in. If you still don’t know your username, you can now see it under your profile once logged in.

Still Stuck? Contact Snapchat Support

Contact Snapchat Support

If you don’t have access to the email or phone number associated with your account, your best bet is to contact Snapchat directly.

Here’s how:

  • Go to the Snapchat Support Contact Page

  • Select “I can’t access my account”

  • Choose the issue that best fits your situation

  • Fill out the form with as much detail as possible, like:

    • The email or phone number you think was used

    • Your display name

    • When you created the account

    • Device info you’ve used with Snapchat

When I had to contact the support team I was asked for additional info to verify my identity so keep a govt. Issued ID card on hand. The process takes time, but they’re surprisingly responsive.

Ways to Secure Your Snapchat Username & Password

Ways to Secure Your Snapchat Username & Password

Now that you’ve recovered your account, it’s time to make sure this never happens again. Here are the strategies I use to keep my Snapchat (and other apps) locked tight.

Set Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Snapchat supports 2FA via SMS or authenticator apps. Here’s how to enable it:

  1. Go to Settings in Snapchat

  2. Tap Two-Factor Authentication

  3. Choose SMS Verification or Authenticator App

  4. Follow the prompts to link your number or app

With 2FA turned on, even if someone gets your password, they won’t be able to log in without the second code.

Use a Password Manager

I know remembering passwords is annoying. That’s why I use a password manager like Bitwarden or 1Password.

Benefits?

  • You don’t need to remember your Snapchat password

  • It generates strong passwords for you

  • Everything is encrypted and synced across your devices

Trust me, once you start using a password manager, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Keep Your Recovery Info Updated

Make it a habit to check your Snapchat settings and make sure your:

  • Phone number is up to date

  • Email address is accessible

  • Two-factor authentication methods are working

You’ll thank yourself later if something goes wrong.

Common Mistakes to Avoid While Resetting Your Snapchat Password

Let’s talk about the mistakes I’ve made so you don’t have to repeat them.

Reusing Passwords

Don’t use the same password for Snapchat and every other account. If one account gets hacked, they all do.

Ignoring Account Emails

Snapchat sometimes emails you about login attempts or changes. Don’t ignore those! They could save your account if someone tries to break in.

Delaying Recovery

If you forget your password or get locked out, act immediately. The longer you wait, the harder it gets especially if you lose access to your email or phone.

Takeaway

Losing your Snapchat login credentials can be a pain, but it doesn’t have to be a disaster.

With the right steps and a little patience you can recover your username and reset your password in minutes. I’ve done it, and now you can too.

So next time you can’t remember your login, don’t stress. Just refer back to this guide, follow the steps, and you’ll be snapping again in no time.
