Best DJI Gimbals

Are you someone who loves to capture images and videos? Budding or professional, anyone interested in photo/videography should consider getting gimbals to improve your photos and videos significantly.

Gimbals are devices that are used to stabilize your camera and in turn, the photos and videos taken from them. There are gimbals for smartphones, DSLRs, and more, so choosing one might be a hard task. But choosing a brand is not so hard, as DJI is one of the best brands when it comes to gimbals.

With multiple gimbals in DJI’s lineup, choosing the best one for you can be a bit of a task. Almost all of DJI’s gimbals can be named as the best DJI gimbal, but for this article, I am choosing the ones that stand out the most.

Chinese DJI Gimbal

DJI Ronin-SC Great stabilization out of the boxLightweight but strong build qualityExcellent value for moneyActive Track 3.0 supported $279.00

DJI has been at the forefront of drone manufacturing, but they have been expanding into action cameras, gimbals, and even educational robots. Like all of DJI’s products, you can expect their gimbals to be of premium quality and offer excellent performance.

With so many quality products to choose from, I have come up with these 3 as they are readily available, offer top-notch stabilization performance, and are priced appropriately. This doesn’t mean the other DJI drones are not good, these are just the best in my opinion.

Do check all of the drones from DJI and choose accordingly. Read on to know more about my list of the best DJI gimbal.

DJI OM 4

The DJI OM 4 is perfect if you are an on-the-go mobile photographer. This is easily one of the best DJI gimbals you can buy right now. It offers excellent performance, long battery life, and a handy mounting system. You can’t go wrong with it.

All of DJI’s Osmo gimbals have been the best in their class, and it holds true for the DJI OM 4 as well. The OM 4 offers the best of both worlds in functionality and build quality. The OM 4 is better than the Osmo Mobile 3 in every way except for the price.

The OM 4 is lightweight and is designed to offer convenience in every possible way. The new magnetic mounting system is just excellent and it makes attaching and detaching your smartphone so much easier than before. The OM 4’s motor is designed to deal with heat better compared to its predecessor, this offers overall better stabilization over long shoots.

When it comes to stabilization performance, the OM 4 stands tall, thanks to the 3-axis stabilization technique. Place your smartphone on the OM 4 and you are sure to get smooth and stable videos. This allows you to achieve effects like the dolly zoom and more, making your videos taken from your smartphone look professional.

Overall, the OM 4 is an excellent smartphone gimbal and it improves over its predecessor, the Osmo Mobile 3, which is still an amazing gimbal. Get the OM 4 if you have the budget for it, you will be delighted, but if you can, the Osmo Mobile 3 is still a great option.

DJI RSC 2

If you are looking for a gimbal stabilizer for a DSLR but don’t want to spend close to a grand, then DJI has you covered with the DJI RSC 2. The RSC 2 is a spiritual successor to the still relevant DJI Ronin-SC. The DJI RSC 2 brings some much-needed updates over the Ronin-SC. These updates are enough to warrant the price premium and help it earn a spot on the list of the best DJI gimbal.

The RSC 2 is compatible with all DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras under 3 kilos in weight. The gimbal is fairly lightweight at just 1.2 kilos, 100 grams heavier than the Ronin-SC. The gimbal also offers up to 14 hours of battery life which is enough for multiple shoots.

Along with excellent stabilization for smooth and stable videos, you get more features that make the DJI RSC 2 an excellent option for most. You get a bright OLED display for settings and controls. The DJI Ronin app is excellent and gives you more options and controls to tune with.

While the RSC 2 is excellent for what it does, it does have some drawbacks, like not supporting all DSLRs. It is not the easiest gimbal to pick up and start shooting as you need to spend quite some learning its ins and outs. But if you are willing to put in the effort and only use compatible cameras then you have a versatile and powerful gimbal.

You would have an extremely hard time finding something that performs as well as the DJI RSC 2 in the same price category, making it one of the best gimbals you can buy right now.

DJI Ronin-SC

While the RSC 2 might have technically replaced the DJI Ronin-SC, it is not obsolete as DJI still sells and supports them on their site. This is because the Ronin-SC is still an awesome gimbal for DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras especially if you are on a tight budget.

The Ronin-SC features top-notch stabilization performance out of the box making it great for beginners. The build quality is also excellent even though it’s considerably priced lower now. The Ronin-SC is compatible with cameras that are up to 2 kilos in weight. And 11 hours battery life might not be as stellar as that of the RSC 2, but it is still plenty for multi-day shoots.

The Ronin-SC is lightweight and is also designed for lightweight setups and so it can struggle with heavy setups and this can be a problem for some. But apart from that, you are getting an excellent gimbal that punches well above its weight when it comes to performance.

Active Track 3.0 is also an excellent addition, this feature uses your smartphone’s camera and the DJI Ronin app to track subjects. Overall, the DJI Ronin-SC is just awesome value and you will be surprised at how good it is for its price.

How to Choose a Gimbal?

Device Compatibility- Gimbals are devices that help cameras to record stabler and smoother photos or videos. With cameras coming in different shapes and form factors, there is no universal gimbal that supports all the cameras in the world.

So depending on the device, you’ll find compatible gimbals for the same. There are smartphone gimbals, DSLR/mirrorless camera gimbals, Action camera gimbals, and more. So choose the right gimbal for your device.

Size and Weight of Camera - In the case of smartphone gimbals, they only support smartphones of a particular size range. For example, the DJI OM 4 only supports smartphones that are between 67mm and 84mm wide. And larger or smaller, the smartphone won’t mount onto the gimbal. So be sure to check if your phone can fit on the gimbal before buying it.

When it comes to DSLRs, weight is the primary limiting factor. Gimbals like the DJI Ronin-SC and the DJI RSC 2 can only support camera setups for a maximum of 2 kilos and 3 kilos respectively, any higher and they won’t function as expected. So make sure to check your setup total weight before you buy a gimbal for your DSLR.

Features - Gimbals are electronic devices, so they come with some useful extra features as well. There are many neat features like app support, on-device displays, and more.

All DJI gimbals come with app support which can be extremely useful. Some come with built-in screens. Other cool DJI features include Active Track for seamless tracking of subjects.

Features vary from brand to brand and product to product, so check if the gimbal you are interested in has all the features you need or not. DJI will have you mostly covered as they have some of the most feature-rich gimbals.

Battery Life- Since gimbals are electronic devices, they run on batteries. So make sure to check the battery life before buying.

Price - Finally, never overlook the price, the costlier the gimbal the better its performance will be but at the same time you need to maintain a healthy price to performance ratio. You don’t want your gimbal budget to eat into your camera budget. So if you are on a budget, make sure you pay for a gimbal that has what you need and not what you want.

Are DJI Gimbals Good?

There are many reputed gimbal manufacturers out there. And many might consider or only remember DJI as a drone manufacturer and might overlook their gimbal products.

DJI has multiple gimbals that are high-quality and offer excellent performance for the money. With thousands of satisfied customers and excellent reviews, DJI’s gimbals are more than good, they are awesome and some of the best in the industry.
