How to Disable Notifications for Instagram Video and Audio Calls?

Why do we even have Instagram calls? Not enough WhatsApp and regular telecom channels, but now Instagram too?

If you find Instagram calls to be a bit much and don’t want to get annoyed by unwanted Instagram calls, then this guide is for you.

Can I Turn Off Turn Off Instagram Calls?

While Instagram’s calling feature is not the worst, it’s not meant for everyone, especially someone who doesn’t like surprise calls from followers (or strangers).

It can be annoying if you’re just browsing through Instagram and a call randomly pops up or if it’s someone you don’t know that keeps calling, or even if your battery is low and you’re trying to save it as much as you can.

Whatever the reason may be, you can have a more private and quiet Instagram experience by simply muting callers.

I say muting because Instagram doesn’t have an option to completely disable calls on your phone. The only methods available are either to turn off notifications, mute the callers or to block them entirely.

Note: Instagram’s settings layout may vary slightly depending on your app version and OS. Always keep your app updated for the latest options.

Now there’s a way to disable notifications and the same steps (more or less) would work on both Android and iOS.

This way, you’ll still get messages but won’t be disturbed by call notifications.

Another method is to use System Settings and turn off Instagram Direct video call notifications as shown in the screenshot below. This will disable Direct Instagram video call notifications from everyone.

If you want to stop receiving call or video call notifications from someone on Instagram without muting everyone else, open the Messages section and select the chat with the person in question.

Then, tap the information icon in the top-right corner of the chat screen. From there toggle on the option to mute call notifications

If you change your mind later, you can return to the same spot and toggle it off to start receiving call and video call alerts again.

Keep in mind that this setting only applies to call notifications for that individual, you’ll still be able to send and receive messages as usual.

What Happens When You Disable Call Notifications?

Turning off Instagram call notification doesn’t alert the other person. They’ll still see the call button and can attempt to call you, but you won’t receive a notification or hear your phone ring.

The call may appear as a "missed call" in your DMs, but you remain in control of whether or not you want to respond.

Is There a Way to Turn Off All Instagram Calls Completely?

Unfortunately, Instagram doesn’t provide a master switch to disable all calls in one click. You’ll have to adjust settings manually.

How to Stop Instagram Calls from Appearing in Call Logs

For iPhone users who want to prevent Instagram calls from showing up in the native call log, go to your iPhone Settings, then tap Phone and select Call Blocking & Identification

Check if Instagram is allowed to integrate with your call history, and disable the option if necessary. This stops Instagram calls from appearing alongside regular phone calls.

For Android users, similar settings can be managed by going to App Settings, then Permissions, and adjusting access under Phone or Call Logs to restrict Instagram’s integration.

Quick Summary

  • Go to Instagram > Profile > ☰ > Notifications

  • Tap “Calls” > “Video Chats

  • Set the option to “Off”

  • To mute just some people: Open chat > Tap name > Mute > Toggle

  • To hide call logs: Adjust phone permissions in iOS or Android settings

Takeaway

If constant video calls aren’t your thing, or you just want some peace while scrolling through reels, adjusting your call notification settings is a simple way to take control over what happens next.

You don’t need to delete the app or go off-grid. Just a few minutes in your settings can help you fine-tune who gets your attention and when.
